a 5 inch Oscar is more than capable of handling even the largest food. You'll be surprised how big their mouth are at even a young age. I would migrate to the largest pellet.

there is nothing wrong with feeding the mini pellets, just give them quite a few. I suppose it'll be a bit like us eating peas, rather than Brussels sprouts

size of pellets should bother them to much as a 5inch oscar is more than capable to fit big things in his mouth.

they have very strong jaws and what ever is to big to swallow they crush in the back of their jaw befor it enters the stomach.

both my O's are around the 3" mark and their eating large Hikari Gold cichlid pellets with no problems.

So move on up to the larger pellets.

Don't move up if you want to feed Bio-Gold+ ... it comes in only mini and medium. It is harder to get them back to smaller pellets than moving up.

It has much higher vitamin content, and is cheaper online than the store price of gold ... but double the price of gold on the shelf.

I am feeding a bit of both, but after a few medium pellets, he wants the bigger ones. I only have a few bigger ones left, but just testing the waters.

A greedy O will eat whatever, but after a few bites, mine seems to remember how to be finicky again.

Its simple, if it looks like the next size up will fit in their mouths then feed it too them. They will eat the smaller pellets so finish them up first
