I have just lost my O and am cycling again before adding another, due to possibly hurting my baby during
the cycle anyway I see on youtube that many people touch and stroke their O's while feeding or just to
do it on film! Is this ok? or is it something to not do? it would seem that human hands could hold bacteria
that fish would not usually come in contact with, and lead to sickness or even death. I have grown fond of the Oscar
fish and would not want to do anything stupid the next time around. since the departure of my O, I am worried
about many things, feeding to much, contact with my hands, algae, crickets!! which was the last thing my baby came in
contact with? there are so many things that can go wrong. How do you keepers keep all things right and healthy??

are there any secrets that you can share, I have learned how to keep my chemicals in check and balanced. but I feel I need
more info to help me keep a O successfully and happy.

feel free to brow beat me, anything to help the next time I jump in.

Some oscar keepers do train their fish to be petted however i have never tried this. The trick to doing it it to slowly introduce them to your hand and then move onto petting. Use food as a reward so they associate your hand with food. However you are not guaranteed for it to work. Dont start any of this until your oscar has settled into the tank

touching fish can also be bad for their slime coats
I can't get no sleep

I have 4 O's, and I have never "Tried" to touch any of them. But my baby feels the NEED to be petted and moved while I am cleaning the tank. I literally have to scoop her belly and move her so I can vacuum. And then she comes right back. LOL

when I bought my first Oscar years ago as a baby it used to try and rip the hairs out off my arms while I was cleaning the tank it was amusing to watch but i try not to deliberately touch them if I can help it

I stroked my red once , after seeing the Worf vids on you tube, but a minute later he came back to me AND BIT ME HARD, as if to say" Dont you start getting funny ideas!!!"
i only stroke my gar from time to time and move my SD's around by hand during maintenance.
But take care you do not make a habit out of it, for the slime coat will be affected.

i touch my oscar by pushing during cleaning but not as intentional
stroking. i do the same with the big pangasius... but honestly, i love
to feel the soft texture of the pang's skin than the oscar lol
