TOPIC: Water turning yellow

Water turning yellow 1 year, 12 months ago #97565

I do water changes regularly and the water still turns yellow after a day or so. I think it is the food I am feeding my Os was wondering if anyone else has fed the same food and has the same problem? I am feeding them tetracichlid jumbo sticks once or twice a day depending on if I remember. I have a 400 liter tank and my filter is 1200 liter an hour filter and I have put the charcoal back in to see if that helps, but it doesnt. any ideas?

If you think it's the food then stop putting it in for a week and see what happens. However, yellow water can sometimes be small traces of algae.Do you leave the lights on for very long?

yeah i do from 6am untill about 8.30-9pm. I will stop feeding for a couple of days and see if it changes, then depending on result I will cut down lighting times. Cheers

You have to be trusted. By the people that you lie to. So that when they turn their back on you. You get the chance to stick the knife in

you should always remember to feed them, it is understandable if your away for a few days but if your home you should always feed them.

forming brown algae in the glass makes the water looks like yellow.
check the inner surface of the glass wall against it..... and yes,
some foods also leach the color in water but the filter should be
able to cope with it.

Cut your lighting down to 4 hours a day.
Change to a different type of food (and dont overfeed- only give them what they will eat in 2-3 mins)
If you have added any driftwood in the last few months this would explain the yellowing- it can take months for the wood to stop releasing the yellow tannins
