I have recently introduced two of my adult oscars to a single tank, they are lip locking and fighting, which I understand is sometimes quite normal behavior, however one of the two is taking quite a beating. How long should I wait before seperating them ? I know the odds are that they will eventually get along, but I know sometimes the fighting can be fatal

Welcome to the site. Ahh..... the $64,000 question, how long should you wait before splitting them up? I think it's really up to your discretion. If they carry on fighting and one of them is obviously the weaker one taking all the beating and getting severe injuries, you will have to decide when to split them up. Do you wait and see what happens, or just split them up? A real difficult one that we will find it difficult to answer for you unless we could observe your Oscars for a period of time. Personally, if they were fighting all the time and didn't spend any time with each other, I would split them up. If they did hang around with each other more than they actually fought, I would just give it a little more time and just hope that it settles down. Sometimes Oscars can receive what looks like a really nasty injuries, if you keep the water in good condition, these injuries normally heal up very quickly
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

i would put a seperation plate in there now so they could see each other and get use to each other. most times once the dominating one starts bullying the keep doing it and the one oscar ends up noft eating enough and u end up with one big oscar and one small one.which will coz u more issues
DONT BUY ON IMPULSE DO SUM HOMEWORK FIRST

I would do as vbaby says, leave the divider in until both fish are healthy, at least 2 weeks. Then put the aggressive one into the weaker ones side. If they still fight and cause injuries then you have to accept they wont get on. If they are ok and getting on ok after 3 or 4 days then remove the divider
I can't get no sleep
