How old is the oscar? Did you transfer him/her to an uncycled tank. They say adult oscars can go a couple of weeks without food before it really starts affecting them.

Also, any lethargia? Acting strange? Floating on side/at top of tank or bottom of tank?

If its a new tank it means its new surroundings when I got my little one it didn't eat for 5 days, and threw his toys out of the cot when I installed the new filter it sat sulking in the corner for a day.

You weren't doing anything else anyway…

I'm with Jenny on this one... any of that apply?

My Oscar went 11 days without eating after his tank mate jumped out of the tank. Since then he will no longer eat beef heart which was his favorite. I had to change the pellets that I use too. Sometimes it is due to changes in the tank or setup in the tank or even new tank mates. They also get picky and will stop eating something that they have been eating for a long time.

No, please don't euthanise your fish, I'm sure everything will be okay soon. This is something that many Oscar fish owners experience. I'm yet to actually diagnose exactly why they do this, and no other fish I keep behave like this. The best thing you can do is make sure that your water is in good condition. We normally recommend not putting any food in the tank for three or four days, then introduce a little bit of food and see if the Oscar will eat. Try this and see what happens

It maybe that he is sulking and just getting used to his new tank. Do as OFL says dont put any food in for 3 or 4 days and then add his favourite food. Try earthworms or maggots to tempt him

so its been awhile seence i last posted an update
he still isnt really eatting
no pellots
1 little moth
and thats about it
i even threw a bunch of giant danio fish (10)
and nope nothing he chaces them once and a while but nothing serious
and when i feed my fire eel i just throw the night crawlers in the tank and dont worry about the oscar trying to eat them were before i had to shoo the oscar away...
i seriously think the oscar is tramatized and scared of me cause of me netting him when the tank broke and transfering from tub to spare tank to new tank...thats alot of netting

PS: the giant danios are awesome at clean up
what the oscar didnt eat of the moth they ate..like little pirranas

I am sure he is stressed, and they are brats when it comes to sulking... He will come around. Just keep the water clean and give him time...

Just a thought you may want to try keeping the lights off for a few days... That may help.

my young oscar hasnt eaten proply in about 2 weeks either, hes only about 2.5"/3". when i open the lid all of the other fish come to the right hand side of the tank ready to be fed, but the oscar swims away. he has the occational pellet or bloodworm if one is beside him, but he hasnt eated proply for about 2 weeks. he used to stuff his mouth as full as he could get it. is this loss of appetite ok?
