Are there any good online stores that have a wide selection of products for larger tanks? Most of the places that I find are more geared towards smaller tanks... and have pretty slim pickings for larger tanks.
Hi.

What is your definition of larger tanks? A lot of the good online stores sell canister filters are now rated up to 300 gallons. Unfortunately, if you want heating and lighting, you've just got to get more than your average smaller tank. I don't think they manufacture dedicated heaters for the very large tanks because they probably wouldn't sell that many. If you've got a very large tank, I suppose you could use pond products, however heaters are really really expensive.

I've got a 300 gallon tank year, 8' x 2.5' x 2.5'. I've got a large homemade sump filter with two Eheim pumps, although I only use one. I use two 400 W heaters which is absolutely adequate threat tank this eyes. T5 lighting that probably wouldn't be enough for a lot of people but I like the subdued lighting since my tank is an Amazon theme. So you can see that you don't necessarily need specialised stuff for large tanks.

Now get this, I have got a large garage conversion that houses my big tank. I work in this room so spent the whole day in it. I have got no heating at all in this room. The tank keeps the room warm believe it or not. So at the end of the day, the money it costs to run my tank probably accounts for a large portion of what it would cost the heat that is really normally, it's a very large room

Now that is just funny.

Why are those Eheim products so much more expensive then all the other brands?

Well this is how my LFS put it,

You buy a Fluval or Eheim, you're buying a Mercedes Benz

Now if you buy a Aqua-One, you'll be buying a Ford or Holden

However, if you buy a Jebo or "Aquanova", you're buying a shitty little Datsun.

What you have to remember is that you are heating the room with electricity (from the heaters) and not gas(loads cheaper). Would be cheaper to have a radiator in the room and then let the tank heater make up the rest for the tank rather than let the heater heat all the tank water
