My fluval crabon 1 year, 9 months ago #107636

Okay so everyone knows how the fluval cansiter filters have the fulti stage filtration setup, so i was thinking about the carbon and rembered how they had other things to put in there in place of carbon? I was wondering what some of the other options were and if they have any decient benifits, and sence theres three conpartments for the carbon if i rember right can i put three different things such as carbon option 1 and option 2. thanks everyone

I have a different brand of filter, but i got ceramic rings in the bottomtray, topped of with a thin but wide sized filterspongue.
Middle tray is filled with blue filterfloss.
I put that in instead of the carbon that i had in there when i started out in the hobby.
The whole thing is topped of with a fine filterpad and some white filter cotton wool.

Mind you i do not use the white cotton wool anymore, for it clogs my canister real fast and i see no difference in how polished the water looks...

Matt, I removed ALL carbon from ALL of my filters. Including my FX5. I use Biomax or Bioballs instead!

No it does NOT suck up oders or meds, It is all in place to grow more BB.

Carbon has a SHORT usage life, and needs to be replaced FREQUENTLY. I never use Carbon unless I am removing meds from the water. I never use Meds because I keep my tanks where I am supposed to. Therefor I have no use for Carbon.

If I were you, I would buy Biomax... And use that instead of Carbon.

i believe what you are refering to is fluvals nitrate remover. i tried this product, as an experiment, to see just how effective it was and found that even though it did have an effect on the nitrate in the tank, that overall it didnt significantly reduce my nitrates to a noticeable level so i replaced it with more bio max.

all you need to do is fill your filter with bio media, reduce your stock list and do enough waterchanges and your tank will fall into line in no time......
