Has anyone tried Seachem Matrix?

It "claims" that the size of it's surface area and pores allows it to also cultivate a healthy amount of nitrate-eating bacteria also, and not just nitrite eating bacteria. While I would not expect this to replace a water change, it may be a compelling addition to a filter system. Some people have said it really works. One user reported nitrates going down from 20ppm to 4ppm the first week of use.

Iv been meaning to give it a go for a long time. Alot of people swear by it, but its quite pricey for the amount I need to use in my filter.

I you buy some be sure to post your Nitrate results for us.

Absolutely aus-car!

I want to use it as a suppliment, and use other biomedia as well. There is a pond version of matrix which uses larger "rock" like chunks for the biomedia. Since I am throwing it into a sump, I may go with the pond version.

I also read good things about the Eheim SubstratPro, Kaldness K1 and Fluval bio medias as well. I am pondering putting some of all of these in and giving them a go.

Cheers,

Joshua

you are gonna have one hell of a lot of filtration media surface and thus one supersump.

Two thirds of my 2080 is filled with Substrat Pro as well as half of my 2217. Its good stuff, when I first opened the box I felt like grabbing some milk and a spoon it looks like a tasty brekkie cereal
