you can allways lower the flow with valves and bigger holes.
it's harder to contol the flow with smaller holes if by any chance you get a powerfull pump, you'll be glad if the water is gone quick enough.

You're asking the wrong guy.
When it comes to pumps, my middle name is "Overkill"
this is my pump and it maxes out at 10 BAR.

at setting 3 allmost a 1000Gl, but that's a but too much.
I stick with a lil' over 500Gl per hour, and that gives the water enough time to stay in the sump, for the biological filtration.
But i got no trouble with the point of discharge, for this baby will pump the water 3 stories high if nescesary.
It's actually a pump from a Central Home Heating system, but it works like a charm.

Just be careful with it Gazza, Grundfos have unfortunately started running on their name so your paying for the name, not so much the quality of product.
I sell pumps myself and i sell DAB pumps mainly, which is Grundfos' sister company basically, and alot of Grundfos stuff is exactly the same as their DAB counterpart at alot cheaper cost. Alot of parts are interchangable as well.
Just remember, Flow and Pressure are 2 different things, u want lots of flow, not so much lots of pressure

Gaz, it seems to me you can always reduce, but not increase...so although I really know nothing about this I would go the bigger size.
Thanks for the PM, feeling easier now.
Noddy, I saw your pic and said "Holy Crap" just as I scrolled down to Gazzas comment...must be an Aussie thing...Makes my pumps look like toys. If your house catches fire you can put it out with the fish tank!!!

3500L will provide more than enough flow for a 175g. and larger is a bonus.

this is not a pump..it is a pressure washer... you need to have a wide garage
full of oil slick to maximize the benefit of this pump
