Ok so my mind is still floating round this custom built tank but im not sure about the pros and cons of acrylic and glass aquariums...

All I know is acrylic is a damn sight lighter than glass..

Any ideas?

acrylic scratch easy, crack with time, will make cleaning a little carefully or risk scratches. if its on a solid floor go glass. I don't think price wise one is better than the other? do you have a reason for the lighter tank. also water isn't light so won't make any difference once filled. )

glass is my favorite, but the weight of full glass tanks, would make me decide for acrylic if i were to go any bigger than 180gl.
and supposedly acrylic will be more scratch sensitive, but like in your case, i got enough scratches on my glass tank as it is, but most scratches came with the tank, for free.
but i got no expierience with scratability of acryl.

mind you, moving the tank is not something that you do every day, so if i were you, i'd go for glass.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

If I my suggest, I was going with glass, but the builder of my aquarium contacted the Big Al's down here, to ask what they used for their HUGE shark tank, and they in fact used acrylic. There is a type of acrylic that is scratch resistant, and does not crack over time.

I will get him to tell me the name again, but it was a type of acrylic that started with "L". It is what mine is being built with.

Also, with acrylic, you can get a special type of silicone that basically fuses the walls together, and effectively creates a seamless tank.
