There has been talk in the national papers here in the uk in recent weeks of adding florine to the water

Now we now that the chlorine in the water is not good for the good bacteria in filters and as florine is in the same group in the chemical table (and is similar to chlorine)I have some questions about this

Will florine be like chlorine and be bad for the good bacteria in filters

If florine is bad for the bacteria, will the dechlorinator we use work on florine. If is does will we need to use the same amount or more? If the dechlorinator we use does not work on florine what can we add to remove it

If anyone know the answer to all or any of these questions i would be grateful if they could post an answer

It is only talk at the moment as far as i understand it but forwarned it forarmed
I can't get no sleep

I thought it was fluoride that was added to tap water? Maybe it's the same as florine, I really don't know. I know that it is common in the United States. That's why everyone has shining white teeth mind you, there is controversy to whether it actually is good for you. I don't see why we should be forced to consume something when we might not actually want it. Whichever we are talking about, I believe it is dangerous to both fish and the biological filter. I can't see anything on the bottle at mentions removing fluoride, it certainly is something to think about if they are going to start adding it to our water. I believe that letting the water standstill for a couple of days reduces these elements considerably. However, that wouldn't help me much because I take the water straight from my tap. I think we'll have to look into it and find out whether the water conditioners do indeed remove fluoride. Some of the guys in the States would know, they obviously have this problem.

well im in canada and they have been adding fluoride in the water here since before i was born. i also have had aquariums set up many times over the years and i havent had water related probs from it that i know. i also take water straight from my tap when i do water changes and after looking at the dechlorinator bottle that is use(top fin brand)it only says that it removes chlorine chloramines and heavy metals so im not really sure if it removes flourides unless they're classified as heavy metals. i've never had probs with my biologicals in my tank but to say for sure...i guess i cant
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all
