I have cycling a 75 gallon tank with a FX5 filter. Planning on stocking with a single Oscar and a few Silver Dollars. Is it your guy's opinion that the filter alone will provide enough water circulation to keep it properly oxygenated?

If your tank is a standard 75 and not a custom deep tank then YES an FX5 alone will be more than enough!

I have a 115 tall tank so it is REALLY deep, My FX5 does a great job, but I added a wavemaker to push the crap at the bottom... But as I said the tank is REALLY deep...

Thanks Nicki. I am sure it is a "regular" 75 gallon. I hoped that the filter alone would be enough to do the job because I really like the QUIET.

Then you are good to go! If you find you need more circulation lower in the tank, you can always drop the level of the output so it is deeper... Mine is about half way into the tank....

Well, perhaps I could if I hadn't cut the hose so damned short.

If you go to your local garden center you can get new hoses! I know because I did the same thing!

An FX5 will give loads of circulation but if you want it to help oxygenate the water then the output needs to disturb (ripple) the surface of the water
