Hey there!

I recently got a piece of driftwood, it's mangrove. I've noticed that it colored the water (yellowish resembles that of a "tea"). I've read that it's non-toxic and not harmful and can be remove with activated carbon. Please confirm if my understanding is right that the "tea-like substance" emitting from the driftwood is safe for my fish even if I don't remove it with activated carbon and just let it color the water.

Thanks a lot and have a nice day ahead!

It is perfectly fine!!!
No harm and will go away in time...
And with water changes it will get more and more diluted!!

Hope this helps!

Nothing to worry about, its perfectly normal. The yellow colouring will eventually go but it can take many months. i personally liked the yellow colour, i wish my bogwood would still produce the yellow
I can't get no sleep

I like it.

It looks especially cool if you have an 'amazonian' theme to the decor. Anyways, it harmless and in certain circumstances can actually be beneficial.

Where did you get the wood from? I think mangrove is a bogwood that is very common to the Philippines so you might have more leeching.

Ye Johnny, it's quite common here in our country. But I do get it from a local fish store. I'm living in a city and don't have the time for now to go to a place inhabited by mangroves (usually in provinces) to just collect one for myself.

I imagine Paul 'lurking' in the swamps amongst the mangroves...
