hi just wanted to ask, ive got an external coming which has three layered baskets, what is the way to have your media,in it x

Just stick with plenty of ceramic bio media in my opinion

in mine it had a numbering pattern, 3 bottom, 2 mid, 1 top.

bio balls were 3, rings were2 and and sponge was 1.


but like staffie said it doent really matter

Me too, I thought that is how you did it because it is in grades of filtration - balls for the big crap, sponge and rings for medium and nice bio home, then filter wool at top for the fine stuff...that way you dont clog your fine filtration media with big chunky bits of poo and stuff...

Iv used polishing pads/wool before but never really saw the benifit..my tank is always crystal clear even without it...but then im running a FX5 and a 405 on a 100 gal...

well it says it comes with faom and wadding ( what is wadding is that just filter wool), but ive got 50 bio t balls 26mm, which i can add, hope it arrives today cant wait x

placement of the media will depend on the way that the water flows in your filter. for example in a fx5 water flows from the bottom to the top so you would put your mechanical on the bottom then the bio media to ensure the cleanest water to flow over the bio media. on the other hand a 405 flows from the top to the bottom so the mechanical media will be on the top and the bio on the bottom.
so basically you will need to know how the flow is in your new filter in order to properly place the media in the baskets......
