Getting frustrated

Given I've decided on 5-10 mm river gravel

I plan to have 2-3" coverage in a 6' x 2' tank .

Gravel is sold here in many different quantities 10lt bucket, 25 kg bag ,1 mt shovel fulls just to name a few

Could someone please give me an idea on how much I'll need ?

Cheers Gaz

Gazza, our measurement system in the states is just a bit different, but I can tell you in my 5x2 tank, to get the gravel between 2 and 2.5 inches thick, I used two 5 gallon buckets full... I hope that helps...

Gaz my tank has a 6x2 base, I was sold 3 bags of 25kg gravel. I ended up using 2 bags and took the other one back as it was too much (I don't like deep substrates), you can see the depth my gravel in my tank photos in the pics section.

Also the first gravel I used was about 4-5mm, when changing over to 3mm gravel I currently use, I find it easier to keep clean as alot of the Oscar/Pleco turds rest on the surface and don't get trapped in the gravel bed.

I personally would advise against 10mm gravel purely for the fact Oscars are messy eaters and alot of the leftovers will fall in between the gravel and will stay there until your next w/c. At the end of the day it's your choice alone, 2x25kg bags would be mine.
