hes problably a little freaked out because its new and hes not used to it yet. the bio whells will help with your water quality issues but it will take a while for the beneficial bateria to grow. keep monitoring your water and doing water changes when necessary until the bacteria has a chance to grow.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

Having movent on the surface will help oxygenate the water, a bit like having a bigger sureface area but this alone will not help water condition. having extra filteration will help the water conditions, but it will depend on what you are trying to improve. if its breaking down wast and keeping the tank clean yes the extra filters will work. But as I remember you had a cycle problem where the filter bactria may have been damaged. the extra filters will help here but will take time to function. the cycle process can take weeks so there will be a few points for you to watch for. 1st keep a very close check on your waster condition by regular testing. If any ammonia, nitrites are present do a water change of 30% but if readings are high I would do a 50% change.this could go on for days so be aware. feed your fish very little or every few days.you could add a chemical to help speed up the process of the cycle and also to help remove any build up of ammonia, nitites and most fish shops would help with a selection. all will depend really on how many fish you have and how big they are and what size tank they are in.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
