with the multiple filters you would always have filtration whilst cleaning media but in my view seems a bit silly when you could run a 405. Maybe a 405 and a smaller one for good filtration and also a backup.

I think three is a little bit too much. Not too much filtration, too many filters. You might have problems getting in the third filter. A lot of tanks have cutouts on each back corner so it's no problem attaching two external filters, I think it would be a little bit more of a problem to plumb in a third.
Two 205's will give you about the same filtration as one 405. The good thing about having two filters is if one does break down, at least you've got a backup. however, one 205 won't be enough filtration for your tank. If you can afford it, you could go for two 405 filters, or one 205, and a 405. Or you could just stick with a 405 and hope that it doesn't break down. I think that these filters are fairly reliable, I haven't had many reports of them just packing up altogether. Some of our members do use them so will give you the benefits of their experience.
Your tank won't have an awful lot of surface area so a couple of filters, or even one of the large ones will aireate your tank perfectly okay. You've just got to make sure that when you set the filters up, the water coming back into the tank Is causing quite a bit of surface agitation.

in your position i would get the 405 and run it with a 205. then later if you want you can always pick up another 405 and swap out the last 205.
just my 2 cents
