a couple of 305 will work on your tank. as for servicing it depends on how many fish you have how often and how much you feed them and where the intake is positioned. if i were you i would check them after a week and if there still relatively unclogged check the following week. keep doing this until it needs to be cleaned. then clean it at the same interval regularly. remember as your oscar grows the amount of waste he will produce also ncreases.

imo and from experience fluval makes quality filters that are both dependable and easy to set up and maintain. for the money i think they are the best buy for your dollar(or pound). that being said there are other filter brands that also provide excellent filtration and are as realiable or even more so than fluval but they come with a hefty price attached. the best way to decribe it is like fluval is the cadillac of filters but eheim is the porche(and its not coincedence that i picked a german car for a german filter).

and yes i would recommend fluval to anyone who asks. mine have worked for me flawlessly for many years now and when my new tank is built i will have a pair of fx5 on it to run in tandum with my sump
