Is there a trick when you clean out your tank and filter to get the Fluval 404 to start circulating water? We have a 404 and a 305 and it seems like it take forever to get circulating no matter how many times we prime it. I think we must be doing something wrong or missing a step. It eventually starts circulation but takes at least 15 -30 minutes to start flowing.

Make sure there isn't trapped air. If you run the pump with air around the propellor you can shorten its life as its ceramic coated.

yes that's the best way.fill your canister with water, when you have filled the canister, put it back together then siphon water into the canister by your out flow or input hose. this will make sure the canister and hoses are full of water with no air.you can tilt canister toward the hose you siphon so any air can escape. or you could fit a funnel to 1 hose and tip water in. the idea is make sure canister and both hoses are full with water.then turn filter on.
