I'm not that fimaliar with canister filters, but I'm wondering what one would work best for my 55 gallon L.
Something thats not gonna cost me a ton of money, but works excellent.

Thanks,
- Josh

You could try a Fluvel 405, this will give you some really good filtration and a filter isn't so expensive

you might also want to check out the rena xp3 for a tank your size. i find that they are fairly solid little filters that wont break your bank account.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

What about the Odyssea brand, 4 CFS, external canister filtration system?

I can pick it up for $75 used.

Brand new fluval 404 with media--$84.95 on ebay
rated for 100 gallons I bought 2 and they work perfectly.
I had the Odyssea and the flow rate is at best half of advertised.

I offered $79.00 and they agreed.

if you can affors to put a fx5 on your tank by all means go for it. the one thing you can never do is over filter an oscar tank. you will also have less filter maintanence to do if you use a filter that is rated many times over the tank you put it on.

Im with necro. Why make more work for yourself if you can do without it. and the bigger better filter will cut down on work. If you have the funds go fx5 if funds are low 404 or 405 is perfect.

I just bought a RENA XP3 today. It was a bit pricey!! About $160 new at petsmart. Set up was easy but they do not include all the media you need. I will probably post more over the next few weeks as I get to know this filter better. Any one have tips on a good media combo for the canister filters?
