im in the process of trying to dermine the effectiveness of the fluval's nitrate remover now. ive had it in the middle basket of my fx5 and i am documenting my nitrate level before each water change to see if said nitrate level is actually dropping or staying fairly consistent. i have only been doing this for about 3 weeks so far and have not noticed any significant lowering of my nitrates. however i have done some research on similar ideas and from what i can gather it can take up to 8 weeks for results to be noticed. i will keep you updated on my findings after the 6 and 8th week of this experiment.

so far my data has been as follows : week one nitrates 20-25 ppm week 2 20-25 ppm week 3 about 20-25 ppm

i do a 40% water change once per week. subject tank 150 imp gallons with 2 12 inch+ oscars, 2 jack dempseys 7 and 5 inch, 2 hybrid convicts 3 and 2 inch, 1 chinese algea eater 7 inch, and 1 geophagus 6 inch

nitrates in tap water 0ppm
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

I have tried but found it of little real use. Again I tried the fluval brand ("lab" something?)this seems as good as you can get, i had 2 large bags 2kg that I hung on the side of the tank next to my input from the filter. I did it this way for 2 reasons. 1 to make recharging the nitrate remover easy, 2, the dirt in the filter makes the life of the remover shorter. it dont look as nice this way but? I didnt do any real test like necromancer but didnt notice a large drop so gave up. I dont think it can cope with the amount of nitrate that oscars produce & may work fine in a small community tank. I look forward to necros findings.
