Welcome to the forum. How big are your fish at the moment? Do you do regular water tests? Also, how big is the pleco and do you know what sort it is? Some of these can grow to over 2 foot long. I would have to say that you are overstocked at the moment. A large Oscar needs 55 gallons to itself, there is no way of getting round that.

You obviously have one of the smaller plecos. Oscars won't necessarily be aggressive with each other. Conditions are just made worse if they are and they are kept in the small environment. They are quite big Oscars, I'm very surprised that you don't have water quality problems. What about your filtration, how often do you maintain that?

Re: feeders. If you raise them yourself then you shouldn't have too much problems with diseases. However, if you are buying them from the fish store, you do run the risk of passing something onto your Oscars. It is recommended that you feed your fish around 80% good quality pellets with other food supplemented. I give mine frozen fish around once a week, I also give them frozen shrimp, bloodworm and various other foods.

Your Oscars don't actually need to eat every day.

Feeders are not recommended because of the risk of passing on diseases. I don't suppose there is a high percentage of you passing on something that is going to kill you Oscar but like they say, better safe than sorry. I personally think that feeding them pellets for let's say five days of the week is best. You can then feed them a little treat for the other two days. Like I said before, I sometimes give mind frozen Lance fish, these will be caught from the wild. They get bloodworm every day because that's what I feed to my other fish and the Oscars always muscle in, little piggies.

If you want to feed them on live food, you can always read it yourself. Guppies breed like rabbits. I have also heard of people raising crickets. Why not go into the garden and find some nice big juicy worms, lots of goodness in those. There are so many good things you can feed to Oscars, I don't think it's worth taking the risk in feeding them fish that could possibly containing diseases.

I personally think ONE OSCAR in a 55 gallon tank is TOO SMALL considering it can get 14 inches. 75 gallons BARE MINIMUM for one single fish. Further I'm shocked you don't have water problems. Oscars are poo factories. You must have to change the water daily. How long have you had them?

PLUS FEEDER FISH ARE NOT RECOMMENDED--THEY CAN CARRY DISEASES THAT CAN BE TRANSMITTED TO YOUR OSCAR. If you don't have the cash to buy a bigger tank you should have at least just got one oscar. The pleco will grow and grow. It too produces poo. Eventually your fish will die of dieases related to nitrogen poisoning from all of that poo. Remember-whatever is pooped out will be taken in by the fish. You overstocked.
