Been gone for awhile had computer issues. Got the okay to get Roscoe P. Coltrain (albino) and Os-Kar (Tiger) a permanant home says the wifey. Gonna go 125 or 150 gallons. Being still fairly new to this hobbie I am asking for brand advice on filtration. Price varies quite a bit. Anything to straight up avoid would help aswell. Cannister or Wet/Dry and if Wet/Dry is it still recommended to double up on filtration power? (150gal tank uses 300gal set up)?
Also my 2 O's are 7 and 6 inches is it to late to add a tankmates?

Cruised thru some of the forums, alot of good looking fisheez !!!
Wife wants a child...had 3. Wife wants dog...comes home with a Saint Bernard. Wife wants fish...pair of oscars. Anyone else seeing a pattern here?......Im DOOMED !!!

take my advice, don't bother with a wet dry canister filter, their performance if not so good when keeping messy fish. They're really designed for marine tanks.

You can't go wrong with an Eheim filter. I have got two 2028 filters on my 125 gallon tank and they do a grand job. Having never used anything but Eheim, I'm not really in a position to comment on any other Manufacturer, however, that fluval have got a good name and many of our members use them
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

like ofl has mentioned a wet dry canister is really not recommended for large messy oscars. however if you were talking of a wet dry sump this is a good way to go. a sump is unequaled when it come to biological filtration and for a tank in the 125-150 range you should be looking at a sump in the 40 gallon range with an output rated at about 750-800 gph flow rate.
if you do go with a trickle filter though you will still have to supplement with something to aid in the mechanical filtration department. for this i would recommend aquaclear 110 hob filter by hagen.

if you decide to go with canister filters eheim argueably make the best canister out there followed by fluval. i would suggest something that is rated for twice your tank size. for example if you have 150 gallon tank look for a canister that is rated for a 300 gallon aquarium. this should be more than adequate filtration for the life of your oscars.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all
