Greeting every one!!

I bought a canister filter for my 110 galon tank and it is states 425 gal/hr. it is also accompanied by a UV sterilizer inside which i can manually turn on and turn off. In line with this a have a few questions which is bugging me that is why i am still not installing the canister up to now:

1.) Is 425gal/hr sufficient for the tank (110 galon with 2 6" oscars and 1 small sized goby)?

2.) is UV light sterilization really useful at all because in my knowledge UV kills (through sterilization)all bacteria including those that are detrimental to the bio process?

3.) what is the correct sequence of the filter media from top to bottom? (The package contains (1 bag ceramic rings, 2 biological sponge, 1 bag biological balls, 1 bag activated carbon and a white filter sponge). The canister has four compartments and the instruction told me to setup the canister this way>>> Ceramic ring on the top layer, biological sponge and bio balls on the second layer, activated carbon on the third layer and carbonized sponge and a filter sponge on the bottom layer.

By the way i bought an EF-1600U resun brand.. thanks for the help and all suggestion will be most welcome.. more power to OFL^_~

What make is the filter ? you haven't given us a lot of information about the filter.I would imagine that it probably is okay for your tank.

As for the filter media and how you put in the filter, I wouldn't like to comment until I know what make filter it is. If instructions tell you to put it in a certain way, then you're probably better off following them. What I will comment on is the Carbon, forget it, you really don't need it. Carbon can actually cause more problems than good If left in your filter for too long.

If you can give us the models/make of your filter, we can do some research for you and hopefully give you some good advice

EF 1600U means you got a 1600 liter per hour capacity.
the problem with unit is that all instruction were written
in chinese. sory mate, all you can do is try to follow and
be creative with the picture in the box....

the unit is an imitation of fluvial pump series

in my opinion the pump size is big enough 1600lph but as ofl said DO NOT USE THE CARBON MEDIA OR THE CARBON SPONGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! place the media in the combination recomended by the manufacturor butREPLACE THE CARBON MEDIA with more bioballs and replace the caarbon sponge with white or blue sponge and you will be fine on your tank for adequate filtration.......trouble is with carbon is it works first of all but when it AGES it actualy becomes TOXIC TO FISH the filter sounds that its like the fluval 405 listening to what you said about the 4 trays and what paul said about the manufacturor ...so check out some fluval 405 combos...

the easiest way to determine how to set your media is figure out how the water flows through the filter. a fluval 405 for example flows from the bottom of the canister to the top so in this case you would put the prefilter on the bottom and the bio media on the top. the fx5 flows from the top to the bottom so in this case the prefilter would be on the top and the bio on the bottom. the key is to have the water go through the mechanical media before it flows over the bio media.
hope this helps.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!
