If you are going to run two externals then I would put them at either end up the tank. I've got two external canisters on my 125 gallon tank and I've got inlets and outlets at either end and my account stays relatively clean for the week. I've got white sand so any crap is very noticeable. Okay, the filters aren't going to remove every little bit, but if you space them out a bit you will definitely remove more waste that way.

i put the both outlets at one end and both intakes at the other ...this will create directional flow from one end to the other forcing the waste towards ihe intakes and removing it from the tank ......one each end is also feesable but in my tank it just kept swirling the waste about the tank and not removing it ....but its realy up to you which way you do it ...its only realy personal preferance...but annother external filter is an absolute must have item when keeping oscars and because you have an established filter already you just hook it up and forget about it for 40 days for it to cycle while the established filter continues to remove the bad stuff from your tank ......i reccomend ALL TANKS have 2 externals in an ideal world...

Remember that the pipes are only so long. Depending on how long your tank is, you might not be able to locate both outlets at one end of the tank because they won't reach. I certainly wouldn't recommend lengthening them because you might reduce water pressure.

and if your new filter has to be located at a certain end under the tank and the pipes have already been cut you will be restricted anyway....but as i said its personal preference ..as long as both ends are in the tank i dont think it matters that much realy
