How do you guys go about it? do you all buy aqua safe?
where i have a 136 uk gallon tank, when i do a water change which is every 6-7 days, i end up using a large bottle of aqua safe which is costing 10 uk pounds?
so its costing me 40 uk pound a month to keep my water ok.
is there another way around it apart from buying this stuff?

the guys say seachem prime is a lot cheaper ....but i buy a half gallon of aquasafe for £20 and its enough for 15,140 litres so it lasts me absoloutly ages and its pretty cheap to use this way........it also has a squirty dispenser top and one squirt = 5ml so its half a tank of water to 10 squirts for me

I use aqua safe. i buy 5 litre as it works out cheaper. i pay around £40 for it and it lasts months. i do 50g water change per wk. sounds like you are using the wrong dose. 5ml per 10 litre of water that's a tea spoon per 10 litre of water. best to phone around and be prepared to pay for post. its still cheaper.

heres a question for you clever lot then, because i cant seem to work it out for the life of me, and i must be using the wrong dose, so here goes...

Also, i have just been advised to buy pond dechlorinator as its much cheaper and is the same stuff as the aqua safe for fish tanks, is this totally true?

the bottle says on my nutrafin aqua plus .....10ml per 8 gallons to protect scales and fins...........or 5ml per 8 gals to dechlorinate water so if you buy a half gallon jack of NUTRAFIN AQUA PLUS you will need 5 teaspoons/ 5 x 5ml = 25ml = 5 x 8 = 40 gallons ................you need 25ml for removing chlorine or 50 ml for protecting fins and scales and removing chlorine

Ok lets make sure you are using the right stuff for the quote 1st. I am talking about aquasafe made by tectra. dose states 5ml for 10litre of water. PLEASE CHECK DOSE.

There is 4.54 litres to 1 gallon so 9 x 4.54(1L) = 40.86(40Gallon) answer is 9. so you add 9ml or 9 medication spoons as a medication spoon is 5ml(as used to give medicine to people). a 500ml (medium size)bottle should last you 5wks £7 ish. A 1000ml, 10 wks. A 1000ml bottle costs around £12 from most shops.

if there is 4.54 litres to 1 uk gallon, why would it be 9ml? i really am confused, and also worried now, because until now, i was using a 100ml bottle on every 40 gallon water change

i sat down today and try to work out exactly how much to use, from what i worked out it should be...
85ml of aqua safe per 165 litres of water.
so this must be wrong then?
