I have one of these on my 75 gallon tank and it works very well. The only thing I did different than the instructions said was instead of using 2 of the coarse pads and 2 of the fine pads I only use 1 coarse and 1 fine pad. Then I fill the rest of the baskets with bio rings and top it off with a polishing pad and my water quality stays very good. The other nice thing about the Rena filters is that you can attach one of their smart heaters directly onto the intake eliminating the need for both an intake strainer and a heater- you can have it all in one.

I don't own one but I have read quite good feedback from other fishkeepers in this and other forums. The XP4 is now available.

I believe I would buy one if they were locally available.

the xp3 is a fine filter for the money. ofl has posted a review of it in a thread called my 90 gallon setup. here the link.

www.oscarfishlover.com/index.php?option=...atid=24&id=26024

this is one third of the actual review. it compares the xp3 and the fluval 405 and the ehiem 2217 i beleive. the rena got a good marks as a filter. the eheim was the best in the catagory but the fluval won the overall review over both the others. it was said to be a better filter than the xp3 and beat out the eheim based solely on the price. any one of the three would be more than adequate for your tank but if price is not a factor the eheim is number one followed by the fluval with the rena bringing up the rear.
i will try to find the full review for you to read and if i can i will post it later.

Thanks Guys! My next problem is knowing how to use it, That sounds stupid but I have always used a HOB filter. I know it will come with instructions but I was wondering if they are easy to use and how often doo you clean it, and change the media?????

This filter will go on my 103 gal. but I want to buy it once and never have to worry about needing a new one if I build a bigger tank. So price isn't an issue. I just want it to work well.

Thanks again, Nicki

unfortunetlly neither one alone will be enough for a 103 gallon oscar tank. 2 will be needed to properly serve for the life of your oscars. in this case you might want to look at the fluval fx5. it has a great flow rate and will be more than enough for your tank. generally speaking we recommend a canister filter that is rated for 2 time the tank water volume. in your case that would be a canister that is rated for a 210 gallon tank(roughly). since your in the us shipping on an fx5 will be relatively inexpensive and they are available on ebay for a reasonable price. the fx5 will also be a good choidce if later on you increase your tank size. personnally i think it would be good on any tank up to about 210 gallons.

i have added a link on the fx5 review for you to read.

Thanks anyway, I think I am going with the fluval fx5. Sounds like a good filter.
