TOPIC: Biomax

Biomax 3 years, 1 month ago #27850

Biomax doesn't HAVE to be replaced right? Even though the box says you should, im kinda confused. If you do replace it or even replace some of it then your taking away those good bacteria. Why not leave em there?

the only time you should consider changing the bio max is if th holes in the center are plugged. now if you rinse the biomax when you clean your filter(in existing tank water) then there should be no blockage that occurs. i have had the same bio in my filters for over 2 years now and have yet to have any problems with it.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

biomax is a porous substance that can host good bacteria in them,
and at the same time attracts and hold dirt that are being process
by the good bacteria. washing them in tank water every time you do
water change gives you the opportunity to give the good bacteria
to be effective in processing waste and lowering the ammonia.

insome of my clients who uses them never replace for more than
two years now. we just put them in a strainer tub, shake it in
tank water to remove slimmy materials and re-use them right away.
one should be conscious on how long it will out of running water
because running water supply the oxygen needed by the bacteria to
survive.

Allright, Maybe I bought this extra pack of Biomax for no reason then. Well... actually. Do most of you guys have one or two packs in or what?

i dont think so.... in a few months, i am sure you will have another tank... thus, you can use them

i let them loose and use them as filler and avoid the clogging of the intake point and discharge point. the foam or synthetic fiber in between.

I have a lot more than 1 packet in my FX5. I have 4 packets of bio max in 2 trays and the bottom(cleanest tray I have 2 boxes of Ethiem balls. these balls are meant to be the best as far as surface area goes. the foam cleans larger particles.
