Stalker created the topic: My New Oscar & Giant gourami tank

I've been keeping oscars for a long time, but after I got a giant gourami, i am busy to build a new tank 1200liter(317 us gal).

The new tank proposal.

I've already built the steel stand. I am busy with the wood cabcabinet. The complete tank with water is going to weigh 1500Kg

I wish you luck in your project, and I really look forward to the finished product. Just one thing that you must bear in mind, a tank of that size is going to cost quite a lot of money to run. You're probably going to need at least 1 kW of heating running all the time, that ain't cheap believe me. I had a 1200 L aquaria myself which I only got rid of this year. My electricity bill has dropped by £600 a year.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

I know the cost for running such a big tank is expensive. I should have fought about it before I got the Giant gourami. When I bought her she was only 4cm big in December. She is now 40cm big 8 months later. Ive got 2 x 500Watt heaters and a 300Watt. In the summer times I never use heaters but in the winter I know I must take out and pay. To find filtration is also not easy for such a big tank.

Cool project. Big fish need big tanks, no way around it. I heat a 265g with a pair of 300w Jagers, so I think you have plenty on hand. I filter the same tank with a pair of FX5's, covers the tank well. I think a pair of FX6's would do ya fine.

Some updated. Photo with the tank. I am busy to clean the tank and sort the filtration out for this tank.

That is a sweet tank. Are you adding a wooden cabinet around the metal frame, like you say a couple of month ago? For some reason, wood makes me feel more secure than metal frames. Can't wait to see it all set up.

The base is 36mm(1.41inch). The other glass is 12mm(0.47inch). The top and bottom is extremely well braced. The corners is also braced.

If i was you i would lay a piece of plywood down under the stand to help spread the weight out over the entire floor. If you do the math it comes out to about 423 lbs of downward pressure on each leg and i would be worried with such small feet on your legs that once full it will crack/shatter your tile floor and destabilize the tank
