So with my new 75 gallon I just have the marineland 400 rated for 75 gallons. Now after much reading Im only going to add 2 small Oscars after I let it run a week or so. Since they are small Im assuming that top filter with the dual bio wheel is good enough. When I add a canister would there be much of a difference in just leaving the marineland 400?

Firstly, if you want to keep Oscars, even one Oscar then you will need at least twice the filtration rated for the tank. Oscars are very messy fish and require the extra filtration. Also 75 gallons is not big enough for two adult Oscars, you will need more than 100 gallons. So I would encourage you to abandon your idea of getting two Oscars, you will only end up having water quality problems in a few months time if you do carry on with your plans.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

I personally wouldnt add another tankmate. It will make water changing easier. After1 year, you' be doing at least a single 75% water change a week to keep nitrates below 20ppm.

Be sure to purchase an API freshwater master test kit. You' ll need to test the ammonia and nitrites at least once a week, and nitrates at least every 3 days for the first couple of years.
