wiksta3 created the topic: Acrylic buffing out scratches

I just purchased a 180 gallon acrylic tank. It has scratches in it, nothing crazy but from normal use over the years. I believe they can be buffed out. Does anybody have some experience with this and can recommend some resources, tips or advice? I have a large air compressor and am willing to purchase a buffer. Thanks in advance!

Did you fill the tank to see if the scratches still show up?

Most don't show up. But from past experience those scratches can get algae in them and its a pain to clean it properly. There is no rush setting this new tank up, im just swapping out my undrilled 180g. I have time and am willing to do the work. I just don't know anything about it.

I just purchased Novus 1,2,3. Can the compound harm the fish? I am doing the entire inside of the aquarium. I will clean it very well with a sponge before i fill water but is that good enough? Should i look for a fish safe product or should Novus be ok?

from whut I've seen the novus should be ok as long as you clean it well afterwards i personality would rinse it out with a garden hose or something like that to make sure its all gone
