My levels have been perfect for over a year. No spikes no issues. My old filter died so I had to purchase a new one and installed it two days ago. Just checked levels and OMG my levels are spiked. Is that a sort of new tank syndrome from new filter? Should I just do water changes until it settles?

Ammonia, nitrites, nitrate

Yes, you basically removed most beneficial bacteria by tossing the old filter and your tank is cycling all over again. You're going to have to do large daily wc's until nothing registers except nitrates. This will take weeks but with fish already living in the tank it has to be done. In the future try to save your old filter media if you need to replace it and put the media in the new filter.

I finally got my levels back to normal, purchased another canister filter and threw out the hob replacement as it wasn't working well with sand . Now I am thinking my Jd has gill flukes currently awaiting shipment of medicine. Today on my tank are these little white specks that seem to be sucking on glass. Can this be flukes? Here is an upclose pic
