I know this seems like a strange question but I was wondering if anyone has ever summered their o in a small pond in the yard. I've recently built a 150-200 gallon pond in my yard and I was thinking about putting my o in there for the summer, I thought he might enjoy the larger space and bugs. I'm a little worried about our cats though. Just thought I'd see if anyone's tried it before, or see what you all thought. I know it would be too cold in the winter but our summers here are really hot and i know i could get the water the right temp. Thanks!

i never had experienced with oscar but with milk fish, koi, and
tilapia, i had 6 year actual experience. since oscar thrive in
the wild like amazon river, i believe they can easily adapt to
soil pond. nevertheless, you need to run a huge filter to keep
the water in good shape.

The guy I purchase live plants from have several concrete ponds where he raise some fish. He keeps Tiger Oscars in one of his ponds. It's full with Anacharis. My concern here, besides optimal pond filtration and the ingenious, effective hunting/fishing skills of cats, is of them jumping out of the pond.

Placing a grid on top would likely prevent them from jumping out and the cats from reaching them.

yeah, i figured that would be the solution but it's a decorative front yard pond and i don't want to go putting wire on it. I think i'll try my cheap comets in their first and see how they do

I have also pondered this one as a thought experiment.

I couldn't see why it wouldn't work...but Oscars don't really look all that good from above so it was somewhat pointless for me.

i have three client maintaining a koi pond. i don't see
any problem with the cats and dogs against the fishes.
on the other side, cats can not get the 5 kilogram size
of koi anyway.

i believe it will work for oscar too without the wire
cover. oscar jumps out of the tank due to some reasons:
limited space; bad water conditions: and bully tankmates.
