i feel like as much as i keep my water clean my filter gets so dirty so quick i dont know what i should do any suggestions i dont know if i should clean the filter because it helps change the fish wastes

this is where bigger canister works wonder. the more
media in the canister, the more efficient in cleaning.
good bacteria process those waste in the filters.

as long as the flow is not yet restricted, you don't
need to clean the filtering system

instead of breaking your head with media.. you can try the ozonizer.. it works a gem with a canister..

this is the reason i dont recommend bio wheels for oscar tank. with fish that dont produce the mess that oscars do a bio wheel is a great way to filter the water however with messy oscars the maintenace on them is jsut to much work. for this reason i usually recommend a canister filter on tanks under 200 gallons or a series of hob (aquaclear to be exact) or a sump on tanks over 200 gallons.
