hey every-one,
i just bought a new filter yesterday and it has carbon in it.
i was wondering if i should leave it in (never really used carbon before)
I did a water change yesterday when i set the new filter up (still have old one running till bacteria grows) and now my tank smells bad, im not sure if its the carbon (because its never smelt before well not this bad) but i thought carbon was supposed to neutralize odors?
any advice?
should i leave it running for a few days then do another water change?
btw, i think my tank is around 750 litres with 2 adult O's an angel and a shark and ive never had it full except for now cuz it has to be full for the new filter

Carbon is not good for O's. It is believed to cause HITH. I would remove it!

I have never had it either but I have read it a lot on this site. I will not use carbon because I don't want my babies to have to go through that!.

basically, carbon has it own purpose and use. but you
could live without it. carbon is needed when removing
contaminants after medication. other than that, no need.

okay.... well i didnt remove my carbon right away, because i had to get more media ti fill up where it went...
now guess what.... my O's are developing HITH, i noticed tiny little dents in their heads and yesterday the tiger had a tiny hole with a little white string on its head...
both O's seem to have little dents... and when i have a close look i can see heaps of tiny pinpricks, i think these might be their sensory holes but some seem to be getting bigger.
i did a 20% water change yesterday and will do another today.... going to go get some aquarium salt today and will start adding that...
i took the carbon out, shouldnt have even put it in there.
i have never had any problems with my fishes health before and am almost certain it was the carbon that caused it!!!!
i dont think i can get a pic cuz my camera isnt working *sigh*
they look like little indents in their foreheads
