hey guys it me again well i just went to the fish store to buy a canister filter but they guy at the store said since my tank is on the ground i could not use a canister so instead i bought another HOB filter now in my 55 gal tank i have a whisper 60 filter and a emperor 400 bio wheel filter with the two i am pumping over 800 gallons per hour is this sufficient for my 4 inch tiger oscar and my 4 inch blood parrot or eventually do i need more filtration?@? They are both dual filtered ans tank seems more clear already..

That Emperor 400 is ten times the filter as that Whisper 60. I use Emperor filters (280's and 400's) for everything. They are phenomenal. For the time being, you've got a great setup. You're issue at this point isn't gonna be filtration though, it's going to be the volume of water that that Oscar is living in. Eventually, if all goes well, it's going to outgrow your tank anyway.

Which filter did you just buy? An E400 will take a few months to actually build up enough bacteria in the wheel before it's fully operational. A that point the filter will be almost bulletproof, so long as you don't end up doing a massive water change at some point and kill off the wheel with chlorine. That W60 on the other hand isn't much of a haven for a bacteria colony. Even if you've got the one that comes with the sponge after the filter cartidge. The issue is that Oscar waste just seems to work it's way though the cartridge and muck up the sponge. When that happens your water just ends up pouring out of the filter right over the intake tube and never passing though the media. If the sponge is clogged there really is not gentle way of cleaning it out an sparing the bacteria colony within. The W60 is a good filter for a hospital tank though.

i have the E400 the biggest one they make yea i like the dual bio-wheel setup and yeah i am going to keep the whisper running for good now and eventually when i move in like a year i will be buying a 210 gal tank and probably either going wet dry filter but for now my filtration is good right?

I got another question my tank is completely cycled and water tests and changes weekly everything is fine but there has start to been some algae buildup on in inside glass like little spots here and there lite brown in color i just scrape them off i just want to make sure this is nothing to worry about i cut the light time down by an hour maybe this will help?!?

Algae isn't going to hurt anything. It just isn't all that pretty if you have to look through it to see your fish. I never clean the back pane of glass on any of my tanks. It's fine. Doing those weekly water changes does more to keep algae under control than anything else. Doing them keeps you nitrate levels low. Nitrate is fertilizer after all.
