hi all ,just picked another tank for my babies ben & jerry, i was going to wait a few months but they are growing and changing so quickly that i thought it better be sooner than later,i have got them a c dream , 1500 mm long ,they also suggested that i should fit 2 filters one at each end so cant wait to get it up and going , and ben & jerry also have 2 friends joining them (tigers)hope they get on ,just need some ideas on what plants and things to put in to make it natural looking ,can you get miniture mangos?

I think having 2 filters is a great idea, I don't think there is a such a thing as overdoing filteration when oscars are concerned. In my tank I have large rocks which look quite nice, I think even the strongest oscar wouldn't budge these! It's worth checking out your local garden centre, in my area they are MUCH cheaper than aquarium shops. Also try to make sure ther are no sharp bits on the rocks sticking out.

hi nickisue the tank is 60 inches long by 24 high 20 wide

So that is roughly 120 us gallons... You are going to need a huge filter for that tank as 4 Oscars in a 120 will be overstocked when they are adults! just keep this in mind! But please post pics as soon as you can!

hi nigel yes the 2 filters were a little more money but will be worth every penny as long as my oscars are going to be happy , i did not want to much rocky things as they will take up the water area i am thinking more tree roots with some tough plants which will help the water purity and also stand up to an angry adolesant oscar is there such a thing and i dont really want plastic.

they said in the shop the tank would be fine for 4 oscars ,but it was being sold with 1x 405 external sump filter but they changed it to 2 x305 filters so the filters should cope shouldnt they is us gallons different to uk.

yes they are different. And if I were you, I would keep the 405 and add an FX5. That way you should have enough filtration! But this is just my opinion!

My tank is a similar size to yours 60" x 24" 24" and I decided to keep just 2 oscars. Resisted temptation to put anything else in,as i figured it would be nicer to have 2 content fish who can live happy long lives.

That is very true may need to just stick to the 2 o s we already have!! The fish shop we purchased the tank from even said it would be nice to add a catfish as well as 2 more o s to the tank. as we are new to the oscar world we were sure the fish shop would give us accurate advise! Very confusing!!!!Glad i found this site!!

Please just keep in mind MOST fish stores only mission is to sell fish... Regardless of what is best for the fish! I agree Your two O's happy is better then 4 O;s that are sick and unhealthy!
