hey my new filter is a canister filter and iv had it running next to my tank on a bench and sumone asked how it able to work like that and i was wondering if they had to be located lower than the tank????? it seems to run ok like this and iv tryed it down lower and its no diff??? whats the go??

oooo and forgot to say a havnt had a canister filter before and this one didnt say in the instructionsd anything about where it had to be located apart from the picture on the front.

as far as i know it doesnt hav to be lower as your tank. at least mine isnt and works perfect.

It shouldn't be a problem that the canister is beside the tank, I wouldn't put it higher though. I'm not sure but wouldn't it get better suction the lower it is?

it should be lower if possible as they work on a gravity feed system ......

i ram my fluval 404 on the ground beside i tank i also had on the ground. iran it that way for 2 years without any problem whatsoever. now however i have all my tanks on stands and the canisters are situated beneath them

i tryed it down lower on the ground and it didnt seem to make a diff....
well just by looking and feeling it didnt seem to anyways. i didnt test the flow or anything.

plus do you think that most people have it in their head it has to be lower than the tank cuz like 99% of the time people have tanks on stands.......and where is all the free space?????...under the tank. not very often you see set-ups like mine with the canister next to the tank cuz lets be ownest its not that good looking...lol.

well iv moved it down to ground level had to go get a longer pickup tube cost me 10bucks so turned my filter off and sucked the water out of the pickup then replaced it with the longer one...primed it up....started the filter and i noticed all this floating crap in the tank..looks like shead skin scooped most of it up then the filter cleaned up[ the rest.
what was this stuff???? the lining of the old tube????
