wow good price, pretty jealous i got my 100 gallon for $125 (aussie), i would think you would want a pretty decent canister filter...not sure what you would clean it with but i ahve read somewhere to use a vinegar and water mix...but i am sure someone will give you better advice on that...

I clean new tanks with lots of water. Main reason is to remove dust and small particles. You can use a weak solution of vinegar and water or aquarium supplies sell a chemical for this purpose. As for filters I would go with a large canister type and pay the little extra for Ethiem or Fluval. I would also consider 2 filter and 2 heaters. This is a backup system in case 1 goes wrong without you noticing. I would go with 2x 200-300 watt heaters. you don't need to buy it all at the same time so adding it over a few months is a option. Get them pics up too.))))

Just clean it with water and elbow grease (effort for those who dont know what elbow grease is). Any stubborn bits like limescale use the vinegar solution

I agree with marcus, go for 2 heaters with one set at a slightly lower temperature than the other. If the lower one is on a lot check the other is still working. Get the biggest wattage you can as it works out cheaper to heat your tank that way (so i am told).

Go for 2 filters as well, if one stops working you will still have some filtration. Go for large cannisters like fluval 405's or even a FX5 and a 405

Nope, but it sounds cool.
Try it out, post some pics.
Good luck!
Best time ever, when you're setting up a new tank.
I had some sleepless night only pondering about how it was gonna work and look!

I aggree, best thing is to have an overcapacity on your filters.
