Guys, I have a line on a new Fluval 305 canister filter for $80... Right now I have a HOT magnum with 2 big biowheels. I had 2 HOT mags but one broke...
1st. Will the 305 be enough for a 55 gallon?
2nd what can I do to help with the change over? with cycling and all.... I dont want to kill any fish here...
Please advise.... Thank you!!

A 305 will be rated for that tank, if you get it just run it in ADDITION to your old filters.. In about 2 weeks the good bacteria will start to grow in the new filter! Just keep an eye on your water peramitors.

I wish I could do that... I would have to sell the currant setup in order to fund that secondary filter...

Crap... Than I am of no help to you... I don't know what filter you are running now... All I can tell you is that the 305 is rated for up to a 70 gallon tank, so that would be ok for your 55...

The ratings on filters apply for normal fish, oscars are messy fish so you need a filter rated for a tank twice the size. So you need total filtration for 110g if you have a 55g tank. So a 305 on its own will not be enough for a 55g with oscars. Go for a filter rated for 110g or more
