I'm afraid I am no expert at carpentry, but this might help

If the hood is made of chipboard or MDF board then forget it, its got moist and swelled up and thats the way it is going to stay

If its made of wood there is a chance to pull it back into shape. If the wood has bowed then you can pull it back into shape by using a thick piece of metal that wont bend and then screw through the metal (you will need holes in it) into the wood and hope it will pull the wood back straight. I have never done this but this could work

Hopefully someone else will have some ideas

The thing about hoods is that they are subject to damp all the time. I sealed the tank hood I made (form chipboard) with standard white gloss paint on the inside, an added advantage of this is that it reflects light from the bulb back into the tank. I have not had any swelling.

As you are a painter and decorator do you know any better ways to seal the insides other than gloss paint.
I can't get no sleep

nah it is pine wood...i wouldn't get chip board or mdf for that reason...yeah the gloss would be good as it is very druable, but i will probably just get some polyurathane clear which will seal it well and make it look good also...not as long lasting as the gloss but will do the trick nicely hopefully it comes back to shape...

lol im poor and i just use some 1x12" lumber cut to length and they bow and curl from the moisture, when it gets to the point the fish's antics start to get alot of water on the floor, i just flip the boards over and in a few days they are flat and then a few days later they are starting to bow the other way! lol... i just keep flippin em over lmao.

not that that is any help to you or anything i just thought my poverty solution was kinda funny.
