hi all, my first question..

just got my new fluval 405 and will install it tonight, I have a juwel 300 tank and for those that dont know the lids are (in my opinion) terrible and impractical..

anyway, I have the natural backdrop boards in the tank now, so fixing the tubes to the back of the tank seems like a no non...

my question is, qould it be better to have the intake at one side of the tank and the outlet at the other, or doesnt it matter? could i have both intake and outlet at one side?

as you look at the tank the built in square filter is in the back right hand corner, just so u get the idea of how it is so far..

all help appreciated, i'll have to modify the lid anyway I think as the up and over guides for the hoses deffo wont fit anywhere as it is now...

Tony

Hi Tony,

I also had a Jewel aquarium a few years ago and I think when they are made, adding external filtration isn't a consideration in the design. Having the inlet and outlet pipes at either end of the tank is perfectly okay.

in all my tanks and others that i had setu up, i alway use two opposite
side to creat current and drive the waste at the suction point. moreover,
you can avoid dead spot in the tank. although if you have power head,
dead spot would not be an issue at all.

It doesnt really matter whether you put the tube at opposite or the same end, as long as the outlet pushes the water away from the inlet
I can't get no sleep

Dont you want the water returning from your filter to be directed towards your filter inlet?
New to the whole Oscars thing..
Setup:
4' x 2' x 2' Tank with 100L Sump filtration

no not really cause if you think about it with the current pushing already filtered water back at it most of it will get in there so you will cut the filtration down i have my tank set up where i have it when the o's dont move it pushing the water diagonally accross to to the far corner of the tank where the filter suction is at
I have lost my mind be back when I find it, maybe.

i have a fluval fx5 which has a massive water output and i have both input and output at the same end, the output pushes the water down one side and it comes back the other side so there is no dead spot, well i don;t think so anyway...

You want to keep the water in your tank mixing, you dont want dead spots. The best way to do this is to direct the outlet hose from your filter away from the inlet hose. Also as said if you put the outlet towards the inlet you wont be filtering your tank very well
