TOPIC: fx5 promblems

fx5 promblems 2 years, 7 months ago #55793

Hello,
i just did a water change, so i turn everything off including my fx5. I plug everything back in. the fx5 did the purge and 2 minute restart, but i notice that the output flow was lacking. So i unpluged and let it restart again. but the flow is still really bad, all the valves are open and it sounds like its running. What can i do to correct the output flow? it was working perfect before i turn it off, very strong flow, please help!!..also there are no micro bubbles and its not near an air stone. i just got it a week ago.

Dunno the specific canister, but usually it an airbuildt-up in the motor of the filter.
Try tilting it to see if you can get rid of the air.
Some air may have flown back out of your tubings.
Or close the outputvalve for some time and open it swiftly, that sometimes helps.

First I would check for kinks in the pipes and the routing of the pipes. check in case the lack in pressure has let the pipe sag. Also check nothing has been sucked into the pipes. it may be worth opening to check nothing is blocking anything inside too. being a wk old there is no way the media will be affecting it. If you are using polishing pads this could be a problem as they block up rather quickly and are not really reusable as the micro holes don't clear well. if all this don't fix it, i would try it without any media to see if the pump is working properly.whiles its open check the valves are full open. Its not a common problem so don't worry, they are very good filters and I am sure if you have got a bad one the dealer would have no problem changing it.

When you turned it off did you just unplug or turn the valves? if you turned the valves your problem is probably there with the valves not fully open or blocked with something. make certain the pipes don't have bends in them below the filter so air can get traped in the pipes. move all the pipes while the filter is ON.

Thanks guys,

I open it up and removed the polishing pads which were pretty bad, after about 3 restarts it finally started pumping water again. Hopefully, i do not have a defective fx5 like some people get.

I dont have a FX5, however when cleaning your filter and you havent cleaned the pipes make sure the outlet pipe is empty of water before restarting or you may get an air blockage

Most of the defective fx5's were old 1st generation pumps, the problem was the cut out chip used to remove air trapped in the filter. There are also some dodge important about, if you bought from a dealer you should be ok. it will probably work fine now.
