canisters hold more??? they also work higher pressures so you can force the water thru more filter media. often hob's have blow by where some of the water doesnt go thru the filtration media.

I think you are getting confused with water turn over and rating for tank size

A cannister has a rating for tank size. But this is for 'normal' fish like community fish. For large messy fish like oscars you need cannisters rated at twice the tank size

We dont get hobs in the uk but from posts i have read on here i think you need one that will turn over the water 10 times an hour. I am not sure on this and am willing to be corrected

i would think that it should be fine with that as long as you keep up with your aquarium maintenance and your regular water changes. keep it cleaned often. but the HOB on the back will certainly not hurt anything being there as well. you cant have too much filtration.

For a 125g you need filters that are rated for 250g. So check what you HOB is rated for, if it 100g then you are ok, if not you will need more
