Hi all, craig here from Aus.

i recently swapped out my African cichlid community tank for
my baby Albino red oscar.
i have always loved O's, and finally got round
to making the switch, and ill never look back

anyways, i have a question.

i am currently running a single fluval 205 canister filter,
will i need, or should i add a bio wheel / HOB filter
for additional biological filtration?

while the community was in there, i used to see occasional
spikes in ammonia (.25ppm)

i DON'T want this to happen to my oscar when he grows
to maturity.

he WILL be the ONLY occupant of the tank, and i keep my water changes
on schedule every Saturday arvo, changing out around 30%..

I look forword to my stay here, and look forword to all that
i shall further learn!

cheers, Craig

if i were you and to start things off on the right foot id scrap the 205 <kkep it for emergency> and invest in at least a 405 or tetratec ex1200 qute cheep by the way and be done with it if you got an amonia spike with a comunity tank your gonna get worse with an oscar mate peace of mind!!!!!!!!!

Hey mate as said by others i would add a more powerfull filter but i would also keep running the 205 as well. If you run two filter at the same time your new filter will cycle while your existing filter supports the tank and if one ever breaks down you have a back up. Cheack ebay aswell you might be able to get a bargin.
