well i bought a Rena Filstar XP4 Canister Filter today, it seems quite robust upon examination from the package. its rated for 265 gallons and my tank is 212 so it will be fine for a start but im planning to get another one after my next trip on the 1st of november. when i get it all re-siliconed ill plumb it in and post my results. id have pics but my camera went out on me the other day.

You will have to run Two of those to have enough filtration for your O. but They are good filters! BTW... WELCOME BACK!!!

lol i said i was getting two im going to try it out on my 55 and see if i can prime the bacteria colony in it before i move it to the 212 i still have to redo the silicone in it.

lol im having second thoughts about putting it on my 55, i havent hooked it all up, its still in the box, but i immagine its going to push alot of water lol. maybe bad its rater over 5x the 55 lol.. i dont need any shredded fins.

Hun, I wouldn't worry! That filter should be fine on your 55 till you get the 212 set and ready! I have a couple tanks with 5 times turn over and it's fine!

well i turned down the output this morning lol... its got a lil pressure coming out on the + side lol.

Why are you gonna re-silicone it? I use Rena on most of my tanks and they work without fail.

I have a xp2, I found it to be not as easy to use as fluvals(i have 5), eheims(i have one with a heater in it) and so it is my spare filter that i keep incase i have a filter break down. Its the tubes that i dont like. My xp2 filtered well and the flow rate doesnt slow up. The XP4 is a decent sized filter

i was referring to re-silicone the 212 gallon tank, not the filter.

well this thing literally took 2 minutes to setup and get running. i have it cycling on my 55 along with its normal filtration, with the flow control set fairly low, trying to seed the biomedia to get a head start on cycling in the new tank after i reseal it.

just having a bit of a problem finding a large size tube of the sealant, all im seeing are the little squeeze tubes of it, id prolly need 40 of those to do this tank lol

i have read extensively on the silicone problem when i built my first tank and from what i have gathered the best silicone to use in reguards to strengh and safe for aquarium use is the dow corning 732 silicone unless you want a black silicone then the dow corning 832(which actually has a stronger bonding ability but is unavailable in clear).
