from the time i started fish keeping, either for food or hobby, i had used a
lot of different kinds of pumps.... and being a technical guy, i keep on
doing some modification and experiment and my experience can attest the ff:
1) FX5 = top of the line but very expensive. although the cost can commensurate
the savings on cost for water change, man-hour for maintenance and the elegance
you've got for having it.
2) other type of pumps will give different benefits as to :matching with the tank size,
budget available, space consideration and availability in the area.
3) what do i have now are just power head, modified to fit my requirements. cheap,
easy to maintain, efficient, very silent, and readily available in any LFS. in my
110 gal tank, i have only 2 X 2400 lph power head while the 90 gal has a 1 x2400
and 1 x 2200 and they had been running for more than 3 years now except 1 which is
already 5 years old.
