I am thinking of getting a fluval fx5 to put on my 180g. I currently have 2 405's and a 204 on the tank. The output from the 405's goes into the uplits of a UGF (reverse UGF).

Are the filter pipes of a fx5 compatible with the 405's.

What is the flow rate like when campared to a 405. I currently have a UGF plate with 2 uplifts. The output of the 405's goes down these uplifts, i am planning on keeping 1 405 and putting the output of the fx5 into the reverse UGF

I am also planning to move a 405 to my 100g to replace a 204 (i also have a 404 on there)

I will then have 2 204's spare to go with my other spare filter

Delboy,

The FX5 Tubes and connectors of the FX5 are 1 inch.. I just looked online at the 405 and those hoses look like they are the same as the 204. I have a 204 and those tubes are MUCH smaller than an FX5!

As for the flow rate the 405 is rated to 340GPH where as the FX5 is rated to 925GPH. So that is more than double what you have now..

Hope this helps!

I agree with Niki. I have a 403 and i am pretty sure the hose from a 403 is the same as the 405. internal hose size is around (403-15mm)compared to (FX5-30mm) output is (405-225GPH)compared to (FX5-925GPH) the 925 is then cut to 605 when packed with media. almost 3x output. power is (405-22watt)compared to (FX5-48watt). The size of the FX5 is BIG. check your cabinet. I think it was you Niki that was surprised when you received it??? It holds 5gallon! you won't be disappointed with it. if it was me i would have to think about it myself as you have 2 good pumps and I like to back everything thing up. swap 2 for 1? or are you going to run another along with it?

if you do go for it sit it on a bit of old carpet and wrap the hose in old cloth where the hose goes through the cupboard hole to make it even more quieter. its not noisey as far as pumps go.

PS keep the box it comes in to park your car in.))))))

Cheers nickisue and marcus. I have enough room for one on my 180g as my tank in under the stairs so there is a tall area to the left of the tank

I was going to have a 405 and the fx5 on the 180g, and then a 404 and a 405 on my 100g. This way i dont have to rely on the reverse UGF to make up my filtration. Dont get me wrong the rUGF works great on keeping the gravel clean and increases the filtration, i just dont want to rely on it

I think i will get one soon, I have seen them for sale for £130.00 including delivery which i think is quite good.

Maybe in a few weeks

i dont think youll be disapointed with that setup. i have the exact same on my 180(an fx5 and a 405) and i find it works fabulously keeping the water clear.
