Hi all this is my first post and was just wondering if anyone knew of somewere that sells tanks of either 6 or 7 ft? As i am thinking of getting a couple of oscars but want to do it rite 1st time to save cost in the future. I have found one on shirley aquatics but thats about it! Also iam wondering wether or not to purchase an eheim profesional II external filter of relevant size to the tank possibly the thermo one with the built in heater. will this heat and the tank enough? Has anyone used this if so what are your comments? And finally (for now lol) will just one external filter be enough because i know that oscars produce alot of waste. Thanx in advance folks!

Welcome to our community
Any reputable fish store should be able to order you a tank. Unless they are a very big store, none of them will actually hold large tanks in stock because they take up too much room.
You mention Shirley Aquatics so I'm assuming you are in the UK. Check out Maidenhead Aquatics, they are an absolutely massive company with stores all over the UK

I was in your position with the money to spend, I would definitely go for an eheim professional three, or a two. The only ones that I am aware of that have heaters built into them other wet dry eheim filters. I would avoid these, they are really made for marine tanks. A 400 W heater will heat a six-foot tank just fine and will only cost you about 20 quid

You shouldnt have too much trouble getting a 6 or 7ft fish tank wherever your are. The first thing we need to know is what country are you from. Then hopefully someone from that country can help you out, also you can try searching on the internet
The ratings on filters are for community fish. Oscars are messy fish and need twice the filtration. So you need filters rated for a tank twice as big as your tank, example if you have a 150g tank you need filters rated for a 300g tank.

Sorry, but I'm editing this post. Intentionally winding members up will only lead to arguments and aggression which we really don't want.

Thanx for the repies people. Iam from Northern ireland so it could prove difficult to obtain a tank. I will probably have to ring round and see were can order me one in. This was the eheim filter with the built in heater i was talking about.

It might be better to just buy them both separate. Any other info you feel you could give me to make sure i get the correct set up from the start would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't waste my money on a 2128. Basically, all it is is a 2028 with a heater built into it, and nearly 100 quid dearer. Like I said, you would be better off getting a good quality heater. Charterhouse aquatics are really excellent, I have used them for all sorts of equipment, highly recommended.

if it was me i would use 2 large canisters 1 being an fx5 if you use 2 from the start this will safeguard against 1 breaking down and being left with no filter also 2 filters gives you the option to cycle a second tank quickly in the future

Just remember that the bigger, the more expensive it's going to be setting up a tank like this. Obviously you said 8 foot, depends what the other dimension are to how many gallons it will be. A word of advice, don't go too high, it'll be a nightmare cleaning it. Also, think about where your filters are going to be housed. If I was setting up another large eight-foot tank, I would be going for two Eheim 3 professional canister filters. These guys will do 1200 L a piece so you would have loads of filtration and it would mean that you could leave the filtration alone for at least a month in between cleaning. However, they are quite big filters so you would need more than 24 inches clearance in the cabinet. Failing that, they could quite easily be housed at either end of the tank.
You don't necessarily need two, I just like to go a little overboard with the filtration on my tanks, but obviously it will whack the price up quite a lot.
You could always go down the route of installing a sump filter, but this is not a particularly easy job as it means drilling extra holes in the tank and cabinet.
Then of course you need to heat the tank. You'd probably be looking at around 800 W to heat the tank you are talking about.
Think very carefully before opting for a very large aquarium, it is not always as as straightforward as you might think. And then remember that you're talking well in excess of 2 1/2 tons of weight. I had to reinforce my floor with concrete, you can't just put that kind of weight on a normal wooden floor.
