Ok this is the start of the project. I have and Ocean Clear canister filter with a Grundfos pump that pushes 1000 gph. Can I use this in conjuction with my Fluval 405 until I can get a FX5. I just dont know if this is just for salt water or not. Also seeing as I have this sump with all these Bio Balls I was thinking of running that also. It too has a 1000 gph pump. Would I still run bio filtration in the 405 or just machnical filtration? I hope you ladies and gents don't mind all the questions. There will be many more. Stay tuned.

Thanks
Roger

I did a test cleaning spot. Look like I may have some luck.

Damn, that tank is going to need one hell of a clean. The two canister filters you have mentioned are perfectly okay for your tank, what is it, 125 gallons?.The FX5 is a very good filter so there's nothing wrong with getting one, although the two filters you already have are adequate I would have thought.

I wouldn't waste your time or effort setting up that sump filter. You will however need to see how it is plumbed in. You may need to block a few holes off depending on how all the pipework has been installed.

Yes its a 125. The cleaning has come along pretty good so far. Thanks for the reply. Not sure if you are familiar with the media in the Ocean clear but could or should I stuff the center with bio balls? I just have a lot of them and will use them if I can.

I agree with you, fill that baby with bioballs!!!! And I would make sure you have a new filter thing first!

if the 2 filters you have are running i probably would just use them as ofl said. make sure you give everything a really good clean in fresh water to remove all the salts. soak the lot for a few days then change the water a few times soaking in between. never used that filter or seen one but if thats inside yes it looks like filling it is the right idea.

Turns out there is supposed to be another biological filtration insert in the middle so yes I will fill it with the bio balls. I am planning on filling the tank sometime this week to check for leaks and stuff. I will hook the filter up and let it run for a while. I will probly drain and refill a couple of times to get all the salts out.

So far I stripped the filter and pump. Cleaned them back to almost new. Started cleaning the tank some. Trying to figure out the best way to plumb the filters. I really don't want to drill new holes but the ones that are there are not in the places I would have put them. So trying to make them work. And Ronnie you are more than wecome to come and help...LOL.

Well alot has been done. Alot of work. This weekend I'll have time to fill with water and check for leaks. I have some polish on order. A little more plumbing to go and it will be done. Well not the stand. That won't get done for a while. I'm gonna use bead board and stain it. Anyway this is what it looks like so far.

Wow it's really starting to look nice. I wish I could help more with the filter questions, however I am novice when it comes to filter systems, always learning! It seems that your questions are being answered by some experienced members. I am sure they'll continue to guide you. I am excited to see the finished project, keep up the great work!
